I need a very quick fix for my frown lines. Would you recommend Dysport over Botox for this? How long do Dysport injections keep the wrinkles away and how quickly do you see results?
Dysport works faster than Botox so if you need to see the results fast, go with Dysport. Both Botox and Dysport need to be repeated every 3-4 months to maintain the results. It does take up to 2 weeks to see the full results but with Dysport you should see beginning of results quicker.

I would like Botox treatments. I have very pronounced frown lines and crow's feet. How many injections would I get for these areas? Do you first apply a topical anesthetic?
Each patient is unique so I have to examine you. The injections of Botox or Dysport are quick and gentle and done by me (and not my nurse) with a very fine tipped needle. The better the technique, the less pain and bruising and swelling. Some patients use topical numbing but for the vast majority of my Botox patients, numbing is not necessary. There may be 5 to 7 or more small injections needed for the frown lines and 3 to 4 small injections for the crows feet Botox.

What is PLLA?
PLLA is poly-L-lactic acid which is the filler, ARTEFILL. PLLA or Artefill is the only FDA approved permanent filler in the U.S..

Are any of the injectable fillers that you use made of animal by-products? If so, is it possible to have an allergic reaction?
Some fillers do have animal based collagen or poultry based albumin or other additives. In cosmetic surgery just like anything, allergic reactions are possible in any product under the sun. However, the products that I prefer to use are the FDA approved Hyaluronic Acids like Restylane, Perlane and Juvederm that are relatively the safest and least allergy causing and no allergy test are done with these fillers.

I know there are different types of Juvederm but I just came across one that I hadn't heard of before, Juvederm XC. Is this new? What does it treat?
Juvederm XC is simply Juvederm with lidocaine for increased comfort and less pain. We only carry the Juvederm XC in my Chevy Chase Maryland 20815 and Northern Virginia 20170 offices.

Will the lidoderm infused into my Juvederm treatment sufficiently numb my face and prevent pain during injections?
The gentle injection technique of your plastic surgeon or dermatologist is more important than lidocaine but the lidocaine does certainly help reduce pain during and after the injections.

Are injectable fillers permanent or do they need to be replaced often?
In the U.S. only Artefill is an FDA approved permanent filler. All other FDA approved dermal fillers need to be reinjected once or twice per year or occasionally less or more often.

I heard there's one type of Juvederm that has lidocaine in it. Does this mean that other Juvederms and other types of fillers don't have lidocaine? And are injections painful enough that this is necessary?
Most of the Juvederm and Restylane and Perlane that we carry in our Chevy Chase Maryland or Herndon Virginia offices have lidocaine in them however not all fillers have numbing medicine in them. Lidocaine does make the injections more comfortable during and after the injection but good gentle injection technique is more important.
